Bow

©1993 Steve Nebel

When I was a young girl we moved to the country
My dad was raised there so he felt at home
I’d ride my bike on the road by my home
I’d ride pretty fast. I’d Ride alone.
I had a big dog, his name was Bow
He ran fast too, he liked me to ride slow

Chorus:

Bow was a good old dog
He was a good old dog
Sometimes I’d think
That Bow was my best friend

I had a girlfriend. She lived in town
She was my friend – Though I wasn’t around
Sometimes in the evenings when she wasn’t there
I’d talk to old Bow – he seemed to care

Chorus

Grandma and Grandpa lived down the road
We’d go to see them – We’d take Bow
He’d stand on his hind legs, he’d lick grandma’s face
If she didn’t like it she hid any trace

Chorus:
Bow was a good old dog
Such a good old dog
Grandma’d say
That Bow was my best friend

One day I was riding my bike and I fell
I skinned my knee, oh, it hurt very badly
Bow seemed to know he came and licked off my tears
When old Bow was around I had nothing to fear

Chorus
Bridge: Mommy and daddy live such busy lives
I knew they loved me, They took good care of me
Bow was my friend (end with chorus)

He was a good old dog
Such a good old dog
Sometimes I’d think
That Bow was my best friend

Bats In The Belfry

©1997 Steve Nebel

Intro – Asus A for four bars

Something just told me to let you go
I wanted to disagree
But I’ve got to do what my heart tells me to
It’s how I make myself free
It’s my responsibility

Chorus:

Bats in the belfry – dust on the pumpkin
Rain on a western breeze
I’ve got to do what my heart tells me to
Get the crops in – brave the big winds
Get it done before the first big frost
Before I see it all freeze – I smell rain on the western breeze

I hear a radio playing in the heart of the night
It’s such a lonely sound
Somebody out there looking for company
Nobody can be found

A saxophone echoes off these concrete walls
Behind a throbbing guitar
I stop to listen to that lonely sound
As I stare at a distant star
A distance way too far

CHORUS
SOLO for a verse

I’m sitting watching the clouds roll in
A storm forms in the western sky
Lightning makes thunder and the rain falls down
Or is the rain only tears from my eyes
I see through your disguise

Chorus

Repeat: “I smell rain on the western breeze”

Would You Hold My Hand
©2012 Steve Nebel

Kristi sing:
Would you hold my hand
When the cold winds blow
Would you hold me tight
Against the blowing snow
Would you say you’ll stay
After the summer’s gone
Or will I wake one morn
To find that you have gone

Would you hold my hand
Like you did last spring
Would you kneel and say
That I’m your everything
Would you hold my hand
Put on a golden ring
Or would you ride away
Sayin’ you’ll come next spring

Steve sing:
I would hold your hand
Like I did last spring
By this time you know
That you’re my everything
I would hold your hand
Give you a golden ring
I would stay with you
For a hundred springs

Kristi sing:
Would you hold my hand
Standin’ by my side
When the preacher man
Asks will you take this bride
To be your wife
to have, and to hold
Would you say yes
Until the sands of time unfold

Steve sing:
I would hold your hand
Standing by your side
When the preacher man
Asks “will you take this bride
To have and to hold
And take her for your wife
I would say yes,
I would have her for all my life

Together:
Would you hold my hand
If I would stand by you
If you declared your love
I said I love you too
Then I would stand by you
Until the end of time
If you would hold my hand
And tell me you’d be mine

Go Out To Alberta

©1994 Steve Nebel

I want to go out to Alberta
Where the cowboys still wear guns
And a man can ride his horse into a seldom setting sun
Where life is just a radio, in a Ford crossing the plains
And skies over Canola fields
Wait quietly for rain

I want to ride out to Alberta
On a horse I call Old Paint
I want to buck him in a rodeo,
I want to watch the women faint
Where the Rockies run five hundred miles
‘Til they touch the upper sky
Where farm boys ride red tractors
And never ask their papa why

I want to fly out to Alberta
On a big Canada Air
I want to stare out the plane window
And see the miles of nothing there
We’ll fly north to Haye River
Where the sun will seldom fail
We’ll stay until the sky’s as dark
As one of Old King George’s jails

Oh, those ladies from Alberta
They’ll never give you trouble boy!
Yeah, She’ll ride that old red tractor ’til the sun falls from the sky
And those nights under those Northern Lights
Oh, you can bet she’ll keep you warm
She’ll never leave you for a city boy, yeah she loves life on the farm!

That’s why I’m headed for Alberta
Where you could guess I fell in love
With a pretty girl from a farm out there
And you could say I’ve had enough
Of the bright lights of the city
And those fickle city ways
I’m headed for Alberta
Alberta’s where I’ll play

I want to go out to Alberta
I’m gonna ride out to Alberta
Gonna fly out to Alberta

Beer, Beautiful Beer
By Steve Nebel and Toby Hanson

Beer, beer, beautiful beer
The bubbles tickle me all the way down
Beer, beer beautiful beer
You’re amber, you’re red, you’re golden, and brown
Beer, beer, marvelous beer
Whenever I drink you it fills me with cheer
So open the tap, fill up my stein
Pour out a round
Pour out a good time!
You make the lights dance all around in my mind
You’re beautiful, beautiful BEER!

I love English Ale
I love German beer
I love Danish beer
I love Mexican
I love American
Especially Alaskan
But microbrew beer is the BEST!!!

Beer, beer, beautiful beer
The bubbles tickle me all the way down
Beer, beer beautiful beer
You’re amber, you’re red, you’re golden, and brown
Beer, beer, beautiful beer
Whenever I drink you it fills me with cheer
So open the tap, fill up my stein

Pour out a round
Pour out a good time!
You make the lights dance all around in my mind
You’re beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, BEER!

Everybody Gotta Hurt
©2011 Steve Nebel

Chorus:
Everybody got a hurt
Everybody gotta cry
Everybody wants a good time
Everybody wants a good high
Everybody gets a cut sometimes
Everybody gets their heart bruised
Everybody gotta hurt
Everybody gotta cry sometime

You know she didn’t mean to hurt you
You know she didn’t mean to make you cry
She only wanted to try out her wings
Don’t you know that she just had to fly

Maybe it’s a good thing
That she wasn’t here to see you cry
Maybe she is gonna find her wings
If you really love her let her fly

Chorus:
Everybody got a hurt
Everybody gotta cry
Everybody wants a good time
Everybody wants a good high
Everybody gets a cut sometimes
Everybody gets a salt wound
Everybody gotta hurt
Everybody gotta cry sometime

I can tell you that you’re not alone
Sometime everybody got to cry
Everybody gets their feelings hurt
They don’t always know the reason why

If you find your tears just let them flow
Just remember that you’re not alone
Everybody gets a broken heart
Sometimes you gotta be a rolling stone

The Stranger

©1986 Steve Nebel

The lights are still on at the back of his whiskey soaked mind
As he tells me guitars, and hard liquor bars ain’t no way to spend all my time
I can tell by his face and the way that he moves he’s alone
I can hear in his voice and the way all his words seem to drone
Then he looks at his hands, and he looks at the back of the bar
He looks at his face in the mirror, his hands gesture slowly, and he says to himself
Is this what we come to? Is this where I am? Was it worth it to travel so far?

Chorus

I’m a stranger, a stranger, a stranger a long way from home
I’m a stranger, a stranger and I’ll be a stranger, yes I’ll be a stranger
’til the winds that brought me here finally blow me back home

I ordered more whiskey and I watched as he drank his right down
He talked of circuses, carnivals, and women in hundreds of towns
Con games, motorcycles, hot cars and people he’d met
Women he’d left alone, and the woman he hadn’t found yet
That old bartender listened as he poured us more whiskey around
The jukebox played another sad song, the stranger shook his head and says to himself
Is this what we come to? Is this where I am? Was it worth it to travel so far?

Chorus X 2 and end with Em, A, D

My Home In Washington

©1985 Steve Nebel

I can hear the drums of thunder deep inside Enchanted Valley
I awake and see the freeway where the green stretches for miles
From the ocean there rise mountains whose peaks are capped in splendor
Of snow that fell from skies in storms some fifty years ago

And I know
The road will call me
And I know
I’ll have to go
And I know
Whatever fate befalls me
Every road I travel leads home to Washington

I hope that I’m not dreaming for I’ve been out to the desert
And I’ve felt the hot sun bake me as I walked along the sand
And yes I love the desert and the Colorado River
They awake in me a longing for my home in Washington

Chorus

I hope that I’m not dreaming for I’ve been up to Alaska
I’ve stood upon her glaciers and I’ve felt the arctic chill
And yes I love Alaska with her tundra and her Mountains
They awake in me a longing for my home in Washington

Chorus

Every road leads back to my home in Washington
